Blizzard's official September 12, 2026 BlizzCon coverage announced World of Warcraft: Forever as a new, stand-alone WoW experience alongside Modern and Classic. This first WoW Forever reveal outlines a new game with three new zones, over 1,000 new quests, nine new dungeons, two new raids, and Skyborne. The Opening Ceremony recap gives November 4, 2026 as the launch date and September 17 as the beta start. It is a first look at WoW Forever gameplay and systems, not a complete gameplay guide or launch roster.

Forever was still a future release on September 12. The recap's "available to play today" wording applies to the separate Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom campaign. Blizzard's Battle.net product page showed the Forever product as "Pre-purchase" and "Available November 4" when checked.

What Blizzard means by Forever

Blizzard's World of Warcraft BlizzCon roundup calls Forever a "new permanent home alongside modern and Classic WoW." It places the setting after the events of Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core. Players return to the original continents, adventure to level 60, and continue through new stories, experiences, and updates.

The product page describes Forever as a stand-alone WoW experience designed to evolve with new updates over time. That establishes its place beside Modern and Classic, not a new Classic realm. Blizzard has not published a permanent level-cap rule, update cadence, realm model, cross-version play policy, or character-transfer and copy rules.

Announced scope

The Opening Ceremony recap gives the public counts. The Battle.net page supplies the broader feature wording. Together they establish the announced scope below, not a complete launch roster or beta inventory.

The product page does not name the three zones, nine dungeons, or two raids. It also does not publish the class and specialization matrix, detailed honor or profession rules, or Camping mechanics. Our dungeons and raids report and classes and professions report track those narrower questions.

Launch, beta, and access boundaries

The pre-purchase announcement gives the global launch time as November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST. A WoW Subscription or Game Time provides Forever access at launch. The Skyborne Heroic Pack and higher editions are optional upgrades. Skyborne and its Zephras Isle starting experience require Heroic or higher, while the Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection add beta access.

Blizzard's current written beta window runs from September 17 through October 21, 2026, PST. The official @Warcraft roadmap image reads September 17 through October 22. Both are first-party statements, so the beta end date remains unresolved. The beta reference keeps the access rules and this one-day conflict together.

Counts that should stay separate

The Opening Ceremony recap's two new raids are not the same measure as the roadmap's three entries for a planned December 9 raid unlock. The roadmap names Barrow Deeps as a 10-player raid, Hyjal Summit as a 20-player raid, and Onyxia's Lair as a 40-player raid. Blizzard does not map those entries to the two new raids, so the numbers should not be combined. The dungeons and raids report keeps the announcement count and roadmap plan separate.

The date of the reveal is confirmed, but the first spoken minute is not. The live BlizzCon schedule lists World of Warcraft: Forever - What's Next on September 12 from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. PDT, after the Opening Ceremony. No public stage transcript fixes whether the product name was first spoken during the ceremony or that following session.

Official recaps now published

Blizzard's Carve a New Path with World of Warcraft: Forever article was modified on September 13 and now links the Found Photos Panel Recap and the standalone Deep Dive replay. The earlier notice telling readers to return for the live Deep Dive is therefore historical. The release-date report covers the dated rollout, while the Skyborne report covers that race's starting experience and edition gate.

The new recaps add world and system context, but they do not close every launch question:

  • Riverglades scope: the earlier What's Next recap says more than 150 new quests for the mid-30s to mid-40s; the later Found Photos recap says nearly 200 quests for Horde and Alliance. We keep both figures visible.
  • Class and race coverage: the Deep Dive replay previews six new combinations, but Blizzard has not published a final all-race, all-class matrix.
  • Rulesets and testing: the exact rulesets active in the September 17 beta, dungeon operating rules, and a dedicated Hardcore release window remain unpublished.
